Q
What is the difference between French immersion, public Francophone schools and the Lycée Louis Pasteur?
-
A
FRENCH IMMERSION programs are primarily for Anglophone children learning French as a second language. The program follows the Alberta Education approved curriculum. FRANCOPHONE SCHOOLS are operated by the francophone school boards and are reserved for children from francophone families. The program is also the Alberta Education approved curriculum.
The LYCEE LOUIS PASTEUR presents a dual curriculum. The school is accredited by both Alberta Education and the French government, and both curriculums are followed.

Q
Can I register my child if no one in the family is French-speaking?
-
A
Yes. First and foremost, the Lycée is a bilingual school, and all teachers and staff are fluent in at least English and French. A significant percentage of the students registered at the Lycée come from Anglophone families who are seeking to weave a multicultural multilingual perspective into their children's education.

Q
How can we help when no one at home speaks French?
-
A
First, there will be no homework before Grade 1. The main objective of homework is to teach our students to be responsible and to organize their time. All homework assignments involve work completed in class, yet if the child experiences difficulty, the parent will encourage the child to explain this to the teacher the following day. Above all, it is the parent's role to provide an atmosphere conducive to home study. It is the supportive attitude of the parents, which ensures the success of the student, as well as the participation of the whole family in activities that reflect the French culture.

Q
Does the Lycée offer an out of school care program?
-
A
The Before and after school Child Care Program is available from 7:30 a.m. until 5:30 p.m. Study Hall is available after school for students from Grade 1 onwards, and offers students an opportunity to do their homework under supervision by our teachers.
-
Q
Do the teachers speak English to the children?
-
A
The teachers will speak English if the student is having difficulty understanding or expressing him or herself. In the Maternelle, the amount of English spoken generally decreases as the school year progresses. Typically there is very little English spoken in the classroom after December.
-
Q
Where do the teachers come from?
-
A
The Lycée teachers come from all parts of the globe and reflect our school's commitment to providing students and their families with a multicultural experience.
-
Q
What kind of French will the children learn?
